VW Polo Central Locking Faulty After Accident Repair
Recently had an accident where somone went into the side of me.
Have just got the car back after repair but the central locking does not work anymore. Worked when i gave the car in.
When i spoke to my insurance they said they would need a fax from the garage to confirm it was related to the accident.
Just visited the garage and they said they will discuss with the insurance company wether I will be covered or not as they said the central locking system is in the drivers side door. Iv been reading a few forums which seems to suggest it is operated by a pump in the boot on the drivers side. If correct I should be covered as a) they changed the tail lights and b) the accident happended near that side.
Does anyone where the central locking system is on a 2001 Polo? Can it have gone faulty by the accident or when they changed the tail lights?

I thought the unit was in the boot on the right-hand side, and the impact could have made it go faulty.0

yes from what I have read. Does anyone else agree?
Can someone point me in the direction where this can be confirmed online eg document, manual, haynes manual, so i can show to the garage before they phone my insurance company as they are mainly a body repair garage and will get someone else to look at it.
They also replaced the panel between the door and bumper where the petrol cap is. Would that be anything to do with it?0 -
Ring a dealer. The pump is indeed in the boot, but the pipes that link to each of the locks are vacuum driven, so any loose fittings or knicks in the pipes would stop the system working. Not 100% sure if they are all interlinked, but would doubt it. Does the central locking work from either door or boot?
The rear quarter panel you mention may well hide the pipes from the boot.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Does the Pump make any noise at all?.. I.e Trying to work.
If the pump is working but the locks dont its more than likely an airleak. Locate the pump and trace the hoses... they'll be to each door, the boot and fuel flap.
Easily enough to do and I wouldn't be bothering with a dealership0 -
The garage that did the repairs should be the ones that fix the issue, not the OP. No point tracing the fault yourself and fixing it at cost to yourself (in time and money), when it was almost certainly broken by the bodyshop.Flying-High wrote: »Does the Pump make any noise at all?.. Yes thats correct. It not really my issue as the garage should fix it.
But my main issue is trying to prove either it was working before i gave the car in or it is accident related.
Trying to prove it was working beforehand is virtually impossible. So i have prove and convince the garage it is accident related. Which is why i am trying to find how its all linked.
Does it lead from the boot to the panel? Panel was damaged but was working straight after the accident. But can it have gone faulty when they changed the panel? what and how could it have gone wrong? which i want to prove.
As if garage say it is not accident related i doubt the insurance company will pay up for fixing and wont be able to prove it was working before.0 -

...for the answers to questions about where the pump goes, and where the vacuum pipes are etc. Rather that than trust Haynes Manuals :rotfl:Flying-High wrote: »Hmm fair point... but you suggested ring a dealer?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Dont have haynes manual. Dont wanna buy just to check. Wish i could download from somewhere.
Ah well see what happens on Monday and see what they say. Ask garage to investigate themselves and find out it is around that area.
More answers welcome. Those with knowlege of a Polo central locking system or a link to show how it works and where its located.0
