Hi
Just a quick note to share my experiences with both these 'foreign banks' following maturity of my 12month fixed rate bond with each of the banks.
Firstsave: Excellent service, rapid to open and confirmation of account opened receieved within 24 hrs, easy to operate, no junk mails/emails/hard sell phone calls.
State Bank of India: Great personal service, customer service dealings direct with the branch, emails responded to within an hour and phone calls responded back to within a couple of hours! Dont expect 24hrs call centres - they even close their internet helpdesk for lunch time! They even called me a few days running to tell me they had not received my letter requesting me to close the account when the bond matured and I want to move the money.
Most of my friend thought dealing with these banks too risky. Both offer FSCS protection and (** at the time **) a far better rate than any UK bank!
In my view we need more foreign banks to give the UK banks a bloody good fright and massive competition.
Oh and i dont work for either! Just a happy customer!
Hope this helps someone on here!!

Yep - sentiment I've stated on here before: If it wasn't for the foreign banks in the UK we'd be gettin nowt interest rate and still only £35k guarantee.. maybe.0 -
Too right! the days of supporting your local bank are long gone...0

The admin side of First Save bank is operated by an arm/subsidiary of the Newcastle Building society which provides operations infrastructure.0
