Does your name get registered when you purchase a PAYG phone? Could be sold on to the criminal fraternity or Terrorists as it is then not traceable to them but to the original purchaser.

The police look at CCTV for any suspect PAYG phones that have been purchased. They are trying to bring a new law in ths year that you have to use a driving licence or passport along with utility bills to buy a PAYG phone.
With the OP this will be box breaking. This happens in the US with iphones and ipads which would originally be sent into europe for vast profits.

Simple really. If you have to ask if it's dodgy, it probably is
  • I dont think it is dodgy.

If you read above, the OP did mention carphone warehouse. You do not have to give your details to the advertiser. You probably have to go online to the carphone warehouse website, reserve on their site and collect. Give the phone to the advertiser and you get your money. At no time i reckon you will need to give your details to the guy who is buying the phone.

Even if its Argos i mentioned above, your details will be given to Argos not the advertiser.

How can this be dodgy? how can your details be sold?

Even then im sure if you do not wish to reserve first you can come to sort of compromise with the advertiser saying i wont reserve but will buy the phone for you. So all you have to do is buy the phone from carphonewarehouse/Argos and give the phone to advertiser

    EXAMPLE

Phones4u sell the HTC wildfire for £130 PAYG locked to T-Mobile and 02.There is people who buy these, unlock them then sell them as 'sim-free unlocked' for £160-£165 each. What the ebay buyer does not realise is the manufacturer warranty will become void as it has been unlocked. The store sells at this price on condition you buy £10 credit but the box breaker will just sell these on ebay for £7-£8 each.
The store loses commission from the network provider as the box breaker is throwing away the sim to sell the handset.Argos lost half its profits mainly due to lost subsidy that the network providers clawed back.

Manufacturer warranty is not void by unlocking. As well getting the phone unlocked yourself. Your network provider will also unlock the phone for you for a fee. So if network providers themselves unlock for you why would warranty be void by unlocking?

It is much easier than you think!
You can make £50 to £80 per phone. So think about it, 10 phones a week is £500 to £800 tax free!!
These people are thick paying others to buy them, it takes time and money! I could buy as many as I want without the shop ever knowing.
Also unlocking by code does not invalidate the warranty, only unlocking by firmware flash does, and most phones if locked can be unlocked for free.

I remember I bought a brand new Iphone when it first came out for £180 (it was £600 normally) and sold it a year after used for £225

I'm not in this business, but if things were tough I would do it no problem.
