MP3 Player?

Hey,

I'm looking for a non Apple MP3 player has to be not too big or not too small and have a screen for videos and decent enough memory - a solid amount. Also should be easy software wise to upload songs to it?

  • I think you probably need to give a little more information... what's too big and too small, roughly how much do you want to spend, how much is "decent enough memory" - 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or disk sized, or the option of removable SD cards?
  • Anything over 8gb is fine?

What you are asking is "how long is apiece of string"

Have a look here. It's a good starting point.

In my opinion go for the following in order of priority

    1) Good sound quality on the player is a must
    2) You will probably need to buy new ear buds as the included ones are naff - budget for this
    3) Go for drag and drop from Windows without the need for special software - Sony Soundstage doesn't.
    4) Ensure that the optional SD card integrates into the player - the Creative Zen doesn't
    5) In my experience Video is not worth the hassle and entails separate encoding which takes forever. I would prefer just to listen - but YMMV.

Video takes up lots if memory. On my Zen I use the SD card to hold video (1GB per DVD) and music on the main player.

If you are just listening to music 8Gb gives you over 1000 songs at a reasonable 128-192Kb/s compression. About 60 hours of music
  • I'm a fan of Cowon players because they have the best sound and good support. The reviews on this site http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/MP3_Players.1/?manufacturers_id=15 are good pointers. They can be a bit fiddly if you just want something simple.

Others may chip in with their favourites!

I'm not sure Cowon players have the best sound - all mp3 players (at least of a decent make) more or less sound the same. You do get more sound options on a Cowon, BBE, Jeteffect3 etc.

I recently got a Sony A845 at Argos clearance for £99 - it's as good a player as I've ever had (Cowons included).

I've never regretted getting my Sony, a fantastic piece of kit.

The Fuze is discontinued... it's a good player if you put Rockbox on it, but not much use for video which the OP wants.

And the Fuze+ is a bad player going by all the reviews - Sansa completely screwed it up.

It becomes unusable after a certain amount of files are added, and it has poor touch controls.

  • The Sony looks amazing, is it as good as it looks? Can it play videos?

the only Sansa player i ever encountered was honestly bulletproof, that thing took a beating (it was a shop display model) and still worked a charm!

i have used Creative & Archos players in the past, solid pieces of kit with the only issue being the Creative's HD failed on me after 3 years & the Archos' headphone socket is on it's way out after 3 years, daily use though, so i'd say more than fair!
