Income support

Can anyone help? I am a carer for my 25 year old daughter. I receive carers allowance and income support. I would like my boyfriend to move in with me, but don't know how this would effect my claim. My boyfriend cannot claim JSA as he is doing a plastering course that is considered a full time course (14 hours a week!). Am I able to claim for him if he moves in ?

If he is only training for 14 hours, surely he can get a job for the rest of the week? You will be far better off if he does this.Gone ... or have I?0

At the moment, he is helping me with my daughter (she has cerebral palsy). We are hoping he will be able to go self employed so he can do hours that fit around helping me. Things not easy at the moment and we are doing our best to find solutions to work for all of us!0

You can continue to claim as a couple if you get Carer's Allowance. For JSA purposes, a course is usually deemed to be part time if it is 16 hours or fewer; but you do have to still be actively seeking AND available for work , which may mean being prepared to rearrange the hours or even give up the course if a suitable job was offered.0
