i bought a faulty ebook reader from china...help with returning the item

hi,
i bought an ebook reader on ebay for £54 from china at the end of january, it arrived 10 days later and seemed good, except that the earphones that came with them didn't work. i wasn't really bothered as i only wanted them to read and not for listening to music. how ever, i tried to charge it a few days ago, it appeared to be charging, but hours later, i realized that the battery couldn't hold charge anymore and it would only work if it was connected to the charger. i contacted the seller and he said i could return it and he would send me another one. i really do not want another, i would rather get a refund and maybe add a bit more money to get a branded one from the UK.
please how can i go about returning it back to china, and ensuring i get a refund? i have definitely learned a lesson from buying electronics from china, once and never again :(

You'll need to find a courier that tracks to China, and will have to send it at your own cost...!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

That's not really useful advice. Would cost over £30 for a £54 item. Send it by royal mail, signed for as you will be able to insure. If the seller claims non receipt, you are covered.

  • China = cheap = carp.

As macfly says return via Royal Mail with the adequate insurance. The seller should refund upon reciept, if they say the item has not been received, then claim from Royal Mail.

The only way you could win a dispute is via online tracking, which RM do not guarantee.

Royal main cannot track once it has left the UK, in the event of a claim they only have to prove it left the UK.

I lost out once due to this!

    this is all so confusing,
so basically if it leaves the UK, im no longer covered by royal mail insurance? so if the seller claims he never received it, i could lose the £54,the amount paid for sending it back and the reader as well? :(
im never buying anything off ebay any more..ever

  • One of the problem when buying goods from outside the UK, in the event of needing to return it becomes a headache.
