ChickenGirl wrote: »Just a quick query if anyone can help I would be grateful. If you do a cluster of jobs in one town with different companies, when you put down your expenses for tax, do you claim petrol for each one still or just one lot of petrol for that day. Thanks for any replies. I'm just trying to keep up to date with my records.
I put down the total mileage of the route I've taken.
I don't think the tax man would believe you if you claimed you went to town and back 8 times in one dayHere I go again on my own....0 -
If I am doing a circuit of jobs I type the postcodes into Google maps and put down the mileage which is shown.
I was doing one job and then going home and then going out later (in the evening, say) to do another job I would calculate each one individually.

Thanks Becles and Mamashaz. I'm not sure how to quote more than one person. I thought I was doing the right thing, but sometimes with ms you're not quite sure and you can't really ask anyone without explaining what you do. If you make a loss on one job would you carry that loss across or just put 0 profit and do the next job on its own merits? Thanks again. Not much work on so I thought I'd catch up on bookeeping. All new to me, never been self employed before.0 -
I don't work out profit/loss per job for my accounts.
I wrote my own spreadsheet for the financial year, with money coming in (fees, mileage payments, reimbursements) and money going out (job purchases, stationary, postage, phone calls, NI etc.), then I keep a log of miles travelled.
Money in - money out = gross profit.
Gross profit - miles at 45p a mile = net profit.Here I go again on my own....0 -

Just looked at the hotel listed on RE - am I right in thinking that there is no actual fee for these, just reimbursement?
Thanks0 -

i use microsoft excel to log my work. It was sent to me with formulas already included. Now that mileage has gone up to 45 p mile I need to change the column to reflect this. I am able to do each line 1 by 1 but cant see how to change the entire column! Anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance!0

Am getting a little worried as Gap sent me an email about a burger shop I did for them checking timings and what I was wearing. Have replied (did not fit their description at all) and they have said it doesn't fit and they will check CCTV.
So if they do sack me, will I still get paid for May jobs I have done (at least I got paid for April jobs today).0 -
