Any Tax Credits experts here?

A long story I am sorry for that

We took over a business 6 years ago.We had no idea what the profits would be.Our accountant gave us a figure to declare and "we would sort it out later"

We received tax credits for that year.It turned out that he had over estimated by double what our earnings would be.We over paid tax by £7k that year. The taxman was superb and refunded us the money without a problem

6 years down the line the tax credit people are chasing us for £5k.They actually owe US money but they cant go back that far for refunds but the can go back that far for "overpayments"

We had a letter today saying they want £71 for overpayments for 2010.They have not paid us a penny.Last year they said we had been overpaid by £250 when they didnt pay us a penny.

Who runs these agencies? They have now told us to that debt collectors will appear on our doorstep.Cant they take us to court instead? I would love to have my say in a court of law. They gave us different phone numbers to ring everytime we ring.We have just spoke to someone in Shipley who said he can see why we are upset but we still have to pay them.

Our earnings were £25000 in the first year our accountant declared they would be £50000 (to be on the safe side). We received about £90 a week for that year and they want it all back

Does anyone know a solicitor that deals with these cases please?Apparantly we appealed last year and it was turned down. They did not ring or write to us about this

One ~"advisor" told us to shut the business down and make 18 people redundant and also put both myself and my wife on the dole.We have always paid our tax bills ni contributions etc on time

They actually said we should not pay our tax bill in July but should pay them instead

Absolutely incredible

Any one got any ideas?

Go to your MP, and if s/he can't get some sense out of HMRC then ask the MP to refer the matter to the parliamentary ombudsman.

Thanks very much for the reply. We did get in touch with our then Mp last year and she wrote to HMRC.S he then contacted us to say she had done her best but strictly at the letter of the law we had to pay up.My point is we received £5000 ish when they thought we were earning £50000 we actually earned £25000 so they should owe us money

Very intersting about the parliamentary ombudsman I have never heard of that
