Lies, Damn Lies and Youth Unemployment

Maybe I am being thick - but where are the lies ?
It was meant to be a snappy headline.
My point is that it is fair to say that youth unemployment is the highest ever. It is also true to say that thongs are getting worse much more slowly.
The Tory Government has been on fir a few months so the blame for this record probably lies with Labour policies. Equally, the slowing of the rises is probably the 'fault' of the previous Government.0 -

It's OK, Generali - I think most regulars realise we can always rely on the 'impartiality' of our resident mandarin.
I'd be among the last to wish Cameron and Clegg well, but what chance do they stand when the middle order is batting for the other side?0 -

I used Sir_H's post because it was the first one I came across. There are plenty of others saying the same thing on here; I'm just too lazy to dig them out.
Unfortunately the young are usually the worst hit when unemployment rises as they have no record of employment and more likely to have nothing to offer an employer except potential.
France has had a pretty serious unemployment for decades. The biggest problem by far is among the young.0 -
I confess to being slightly confused here.
We have had large numbers of mostly young people going into higher education for a few years now. Increasing the education standards was a core aim of Labour policy.
Some of these people will form part of the 16-24 age group. So are we saying the qualifications now held by this better educated set are not helping?
In theory these better educated people should have a better chance on paper.
There seems a disconnect somewhere.0 -
If 1 in 5 or so are out of work, what are the other 4 out of 5 doing different?0

To add a counter argument to youth unemployment is the highest ever:

Bring back National Service! Square bashing never harmed that many. Learning to do what you are told, when you are told can be a good thing.
Left Right Left Right Halt.
There is an initiative to enable ex-military to be teachers so National Service would be a small step for pupils who fail to make their academic grades.

Longer education is not the same as better standards.
I cant beleive people still fall for that.0
