Quick question

I have a few items I'm going to put on eBay (a laptop, and few other items).

I've used eBay for years, but haven't done so in the last 6-12 months.

Is it cheaper (as in final valuation fee) to do a buy it now (fixed price auction) or to start it at 99p and auction it. If they both end up at £700, which one will cost more in fees?

Thanks

Based on final selling price of £700

    Auction at 99p:
    Insertion fees: Free
Final Value fee: (10% of final selling price upto £40) - so £40
    Total: £40

    Buy it now:
    Insertion fees: £0.4
Final Value fee: (For value above £600, it will be £12.67 + 1% of the final selling price of £600 or more) - so £13.67
    Total: £14.07

So buy it now is way cheaper!
Just a suggestion, you might also want to have best offer available if you sell is via the buy it now route. Because if I was a buyer, I would be put off by the fact that no negotiation is available on an item so expensive. Or maybe it's just me

If it helps, this weekend is free listing, so if you start an auction at a price you are happy to accept, the saving on listing fees will bring down the overall cost slightly.

Although the fvfs would still be lower for BIN for the same end price, the likelihood of you selling at that end price may well be lower on a BIN than on an auction because, unless you are selling an item that is rare or that many sellers would search for, the visibility in the standard listings is much lower for a BIN for 30 days than for a 7 day auction.
