Calling UK from Thailand

Hi everyone

Does anyone have any ideas on the cheapest way to call the UK from Thailand, calling card, prepaid card etc. If so which one would be best and how much do they cost.
I am visiting there shortly and will take a mobile with me but it will be costly for me to receive calls.
Friends that will want to call me are on 02 with inclusive minutes, wondered also if they would be able to contact me in an inexpensive way from there mobiles.

When i was in Thailand last year, i bought a Thai pay as you go SIM card and popped it in my phone. It was the cheapest way of calling and texting the UK for me

A local SIM card will be certainly be cheaper for mobile use; there are 4 networks

Your phone will need to be unlocked from its current network. There are a couple of pinned threads at the top of the board about this - Nokias are easiest, and people on there can give you the code needed.

See the MSE Callchecker for ways for people here to call your Thai number cheaply. There are plenty of providers using 0844 callthrough numbers, which come from O2 inclusive minutes, or 2 or 3 pence a minute from landlines

Amazingly, there are providers there with 1p/minute 0844 gateway numbers to Thai mobiles!

yep - if typical rates are that low, it must be possible to find some callback tariffs that could mean very cheap calls home

Voipcheap.com and Voipbuster rates are both under a penny a minute; Voipbuster has introduced callback triggered from mobile, though I haven't tried it yet ...... it needs a certain Java version, and maybe that isn't in my cheapo N 3120 phone (I get "Application not supported")

- you need JAVA (CLDC 1.1 / MIDP 2.0) most newer phones support this

There seem to be international calls from a range of Thai providers (some over VoIP) selected by different int'l prefix: 001, 008, 009 - links off mobile network sites, but it needs a bit more browsing as I didn't find anything really cheap to compare with the above
