Wireless adapter has disappeared?

My laptop broke on new years day and i had to send it off to be repaired. Due to a row between repair company and warranty company it took 7 weeks to get it back to me.
Now there is no wireless adapter - or thats what bt said when i called them (thought it was a broadband problem)
I rang the repair company and they said its impossible and that it was fully tested before it was sent back and made it pretty clear they dont feel responsible.
I obviously dont want to lose it for another 7 weeks as i lost out on a lot of work when it was away as well as falling behind on my OU work.
Any ideas where its "gone" ?
Its annoying having to use the ethernet as it means the wire is trailing across the room.
Thanks in advance.

try clicking on Refresh in Device Manager/ windows might actually reinstall the driver itself/ it's probably the driver that is 'missing ' //

if its a laptop it will still be there i would expect, so it is probably a driver issue have you connected it to ethernet and done a windows update and checked the device manager?
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • Hi thanks for your replies. Its a toshiba L450 windows 7 thats about all i know sorry.
How exactly do i refresh the driver? if anyone could give me a step by step guide that would be great. i do have it connected to the ethernet but dont have a clue how to do any of the suggested, thanks :D

With a lot of laptops you have to actually press a physical button on the laptop for it to be discovered in windows. It's usually blue/orange.

Sometimes you may have to press your Function Key (usually FN) and a button at the top to enable it (F1-F12). Have a look to see if there are any buttons that look like a wireless antenna.
  • Sometimes it's a sliding button on the side of the laptop that has a little antennae picture
  • Still havent sorted it with any of the suggestions above. Theres no physical switch, the wireless logo is on the f8 key but pressing this does nothing with or without FN key.
have looked in drivers etc, it says the best versions are already installed, but no mention of any wireless.
    Any more ideas anyone? Thanks.

  • Are you sure its the wireless adaptor and not that your not connecting to the wireless router? I think that's probably a very likely possibility.
You may need to set up the wireless network again. (Even though you can still connect with the Ethernet cable, it doesn't mean your wireless network is working)

You still haven't told us what it says in Device Manager (under network adapters). Does the wireless card show up there, and if so does it say it is working ok?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
