let down by my business manager!!

The link to the original thread is here. It's clear from that that the OP feels she wasn't getting a good service from her business manager in the first place, and it sounds as if this was the last straw.
However, I see two issues here:- the breach of data protection / confidentiality - you feel you've lost out financially as a result of a customer overhearing this call, and as a result you've decided to stop trading. I think your chances of getting any financial compensation are slim if you're no longer trading, but I could be wrong.
- your decision to stop trading - if the business was reasonably on track before this happened, then it's a shame that this has stopped you continuing. If it was all an uphill struggle and you were still trading at a loss, and that looked likely to continue, then it's possibly sensible.
As for the future, do you not have a mobile phone? I'd make sure that anyone involved in your DD's care knew to use that in an emergency. Then the answerphone could be made silent.
Hope that makes sense.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Unfortunately this is an illustration that if the business is struggling financially one way or the other the information will get out. I've had the same working for a business that had cashflow issues...yes the wholesaler shouldn't have phoned up and told staff we owed them money, yes the distributor shouldn't have told the customer they didn't get the order because we were on credit stop etc etc but at the end of the day if the business was paying its bills there wouldn't be any sensitive information to get into the wrong hands. The business owner can't really blame anyone else.
OP I'm sorry if I sound harsh but from your threads it sounds like you were a little naive about what you expected from your bank manager...at the end of the day they are only interested in businesses that are using lots of their services and therefore bringing lots of money their way. You also don't sound cut out for business is one little issue like this causes you to down tools and stop work altogether. I would be using it as a positive...get customers to support you because you need the work whereas a big chain doesn't care about one extra sale. If I was financially stretched I'd be putting in more hours to get back into profitability not giving up.
Are you sure running a business is the best career for you?0 -
i thought an answer machine was to leave messages on? if you had it on loudspeaker its not the Banks fault, i doubt that you would get any compensation for that.0

Thank you for your time, comments and thoughts.
I really don't hold my business manager responsible, for my decision to end trading. You were correct, when you explained, the message was one of many hick ups.
I do feel that the disclosure of personal information, was very negligent. When i opened my business account,i signed and agreed to there terms and conditions, accepted there charges for services they provide and i know had i have breached my obligations, they would not of hesitated in taking immediate action against me.
I am so very grateful for your help and the advice so kindly given by everyone else.I am such an independent person, coming across as superwomen.underneath this is not really the case.Ive never been one for taking favors or freebies, never making a fuss.I love the satisfied feeling, when you succeed, where others think you wont.I received no funding from anyone to wards my business and i am lucky that i can walk away without outstanding creditors.
My need for financial assistance, was for the purchase of a car.I am a mobile technician and my car DIED(incorrectly fitted fan belt, requiring engine strip down, repair and rebuild)
I hate to come across as a WINERS ARE WIENERS.I really did feel let down.My account was never in the red,all payments were made on time and my account had a steady turn over. All i asked from my business manager, was a little of her time and if possible some temporary funding. It was purely her response, that upset me,i think i probably have over reacted.
The message i received was : HELLO MRS *** ,I AM RETURNING YOUR CALL IN RELATION TO A TEMPORARY OVERDRAFT REQUEST FOR ACCOUNT NO ******,I AM AFRAID WE ARE UNABLE TO HELP ON THIS OCCASION,I WOULD ADVISE THAT YOUR CURRENT CLEARED BALANCE IS *****,I SUGGEST FOR YOU TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE,WITH YOUR BALANCE IN MIND. I CAN SEE YOUR LAST CLEARED CHE QUE, NO ****,AND WOULD SUGGEST YOU CONSIDER CANCELING ANY OTHERS YOU HAVE WRITTEN SINCE,THIS WOULD HELP AVOID FEES,AND PROVIDE YOU WITH FUNDS TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE.I AM CONFIDENT,IF YOU EXPLAIN TO THE INDIVIDUALS CONCERNED,YOUR CURRENT SITUATION.THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO WAIT FOR THERE PAYMENTS. GOOD LUCK MRS *****.
I am pleased to say,all cheques were payed ,as promised when i wrote them. I know its probably me and i imagine others would agree that i should of taken my business managers advice.
Once Ive saved for a vehicle,i hope to start up again.Thank you once again for your advice. xx0
