Manchester - I want a good pub
I've lived in Manchester for 2.5 years now and am yet to find a pub with good cheap homecooked food.
I'm looking for proper pub food, there are hundreds of Italians, Chinese, Indian, European type things. I want a pie and mash or similar!
Could anyone suggest any?

Manchester's a big place - do you mean citycentre ???0
-
Well anywhere within a reasonable distance of Manchester or south of the city! There really aren't any proper food pub type places near here. We've got a car so can travel.0

off the top off my head i'd suggest the following in the centre:- sinclairs / old wellington, shambles square. Chop House - Mr. Thomas' or Sams. The Vine.
look at sugarvine.com that may have some others you may like..0 -
good points mikey07
OR try manchesterconfidential.com although you mau find thery concentrate more on bars and restaurants.
Have you been to the Old C o c k, and The Didsbury, on Wilmslow Road, Didsbury? (East Dids)
The Woodstock in West Dids used to be really nice until it was 'done up' (see stiched up)

The Didsbury is really nice, the prices aren't 'cheap' but the food there actually tastes of food and not plastic.
From what I can recall meals range from about £6-£15.
The last time I went to The Didsbury was in the summer, had some really lovely food on a table outside, the weather was really pleasant, not too hot, it was just bliss.
Not been to the Old C0ck for about 5 years, I remember that was nice too back then, is it still the same then?
I have heard good things about the Chop Houses, do you know what time they stop serving food?
I would be interested to hear of some more places as well. It is so easy to find pubs that sell food that is all microwaved but to find somewhere that has decent 'pub food' isn't easy.0 -
De Trafford, Congleton Road, Alderley Edge, SK9 7AA
Nice food and lovely looking pub!
The Lead Station on Beech Road in Chorlton does nice sausage and mash."Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0 -
The chop house menu looks lovely. I'll definitely have to check that out.
Keep them coming0 -
Exactly! If I want a ready meal, I am quite capable of pinging the microwave myself.
I have heard from a few people that the Chop houses are lovely so I am definitely going to have to give one of them a go soon.0 -
The didsbury + co always seem a bit chainy too because they're owned by the same people - they do some student offers but it seems to be on typical microwavey food.0
