How can i stop my hoover smelling of dog!

Hi all I have a bagless 'pull along' hoover only 6months old and starting to smell of dog.

I empty it after every use and we have cleaned the filter but it still smells.

I've also tried a hoover freshener but had no effect.

I appreciate all moneysaving ideas.

thank you in advanced.

Try leaving some fish to rot into your carpet for a few days then hoover that up.

Hey presto! No more dog smell as it will be overpowered with old fish.

lol thanks shipshape althought I'd rather have a nice smell to cover the dog smell hehehe

ive been reading that the smell could of been caused if water has got into the hoover and to try bicarb to soak up the moisture so will give that a try and a tissue with a nice oil on.

A piece of absorbent sponge or material, soaked with some strong disinfectant.

"Zalflora" I think was the name of the one we used.

(Pop it in the empty bag)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

The material that you vacuum up, must go into some sort of container in the machine?

  • I second ariba's suggestion we use a cotton pad soak in Zoflora in the hoover.

I'd hoover up a load of bicarb to try and absorb the smell then a cotton wool ball with a few drops of lavender oil on

thank you all for your suggestions i will try them today.

    kind regards louisa
  • My dog pee'ed on my hoover - don't ask, I have no idea how it happened either, she never goes in the house! - and after giving it a good clean with stardrops, I put a couple of tumble dryer sheets in beside the bag (its a Hetty vacuum) and that has really freshened it right up.
