Bank Service Charges

I heard last week from my Barclays Bank (International) that they are introducing a "Service Charge" of £40 for all customers without £2000 in their accounts, from December, on an assessment made this month. I think this is disgusting and shows how the banks are thinking - once again the customers lose out to the banks with billions of profits.
What do you think? Can anything be done about these unjustified charges?
