No its down to you and you should have really sent any evidence in with the form.

That is why you need a medical, to be assessed by ATOS and they will decide if you're capable of work.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.
  • thanks allen...

just trying to understand the process....will they contact my consultant and GP as part of the process?

it probably will not be accepted and read at the medical itself, I went along to one as an observer and the HCP just discounted it and didnt read it but it was included in the appeal pack so the tribunal did see it and the appeal was granted on the paper appeal only beofre the hearing so it wasnt as stressful as it could have been.

All evidence is good and as much as possible is even better, good luck.

It is possible that they have already contacted your GP and/or consultant, but apparently this is often not done. I'm not sure whether you can ring someone at the DWP to find out if this was done (but it might be worth ago).

I know a lot of people say that documents are ignored at the medical, but when I originally applied for Incapacity benefit I 'only' had a badly broken leg. The situation had changed by the time I got to the medical as I'd contracted MRSA osteomyalitis which changed the recovery options. Anyway I took some letters (copies from my consultants to my GP) and the assessor took photocopies of these.

Do you have anything of that sort that you could take? Also maybe ask if your GP has already written to them and if not, are they willing to write a letter for you.

    Good luck!

You can send in any supporting evidence such as a Consultants letter to your local JCP at any time, they will pass it onto the Decision Maker you've been allocated and will be included with the medical report when decision time comes.
