Does anyone know if you are claiming JSA and you return to work is there an overlap period?
The reason I ask is that I have been offered a job, start 7/3/11 and I am due to sign on tomorrow.
My question is I won't get paid till end of March due to working month in hand, do they keep paying you JSA until the day you start work or is there a period where they keep paying you as obviously there will be no money coming in from 7th March till the end of March?
hope that makes sense :-)

JSA is paid in arrears so you will receive benefit upto you starting work, if you've been unemployed for 26 weeks or more you will receive a £100 back to work bonus, £250 if couple/single with children and you could receive a 4 week run on of Housing/Council Tax Benefit if applicable
Ask your PA at JobCentrePlus for assistance from the Adviser Discretionary Fund for clothes and maybe travel costs but this is discretionary and depends on funds available and circumstances.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Hi thanks for that, so basically when I start on the 7th then I am not entitled to anything till I get paid at the end of March?
all I was claiming was Council tax benefit and JSA, and as I have paid my CTax and had a rebate as I paid in advance nothing will be due on that and only been claiming for 12 weeks so guess its beans on toast till the end of March :-)2007 £1749
