who pays for the hire car?

Yes, but the point is, that when buying car insurance they should be paying the extra £20 or so for a guaranteed hire car. However nowadays there are a lot of people who just drift through life with their eyes closed and then kick off when they dont get what they want. They get what they deserve
A large bill for a hire car. The welfare state has a lot to answer for, raising their expectations that they are 'entitled' to the 'moon on a stick'0 -
Credit hire adds £80 to every policy, maybe the insurance companies should stop using them, give everybody a guaranteed hire car and reduce all premiums by £600

Its like anything, if there's money to be made... companies will spring up and make it!
A lot of 'undesirable' credit hire/credit repair companies spring up also and contribute heavily with fraudulent claims. (Talking about the small companies in back streets - seems to be hundreds of them)0 -
Yep, but the opportunity only arises because of real or perceived poor service by the insurance companies.
As i said, credit hire adds £80 to every policy, according to you guaranteed hire car costs £20 so maybe the insurance companies should stop using CH, give everybody a guaranteed hire car and reduce all premiums by £600 -
If you have claimed directly via your comp policy then your insurance will sort this out. They may take a small hit and split the difference with Enterprise. If the garage was one of their recommened repairs they will have special terms and conditions in place, so garage will have to pay for some possibly.0

We pay for a replacement car as i have 4 children one of who is disabled and and husband who also recently became sick with a serious medical condition, (and before you say oh a welfare blagger we have sickness insurance , not that its any of your business,) so i can't live without my car, it has nothing to do with drifting through life with my eyes closed or feeling 'entitled' and everything to do with trying to ensure in the event of an accident my vital transport is replaced.
The insurance company appointed the garage for the repair and the hire car company so to my mind it's simple it's down to the insurance company, the garage and the car hire company to sort out.
Are you capable of actually providing any well reasoned advice or is your intent merely to turn this thread into something resembling a party political broadcast?
To all of you with decent and helpful replies thankyou.0 -
Hello again temperance, my comments were not aimed at you but at some of the comments of other posters. However if you pay extra for a courtesy car you are entitled to it from when the repairs commence not as soon as the accident happens' This can be days /weeks after the accident due to estimates/authorisations/parts availabilty and bodyshop schedules. If you pay extra for a guaranteed hire car this should be provided free of charge by the insurer within hours of the accident and for the time limit set out in the terms and conditions of the insurance. My point was that if you are only entitled for a courtesy car then by pushing the insurance for a 'replacement' car immediately you are ensuring that you will be supplied with a hire car and that this will be charged to you or the third party (if uninsured losses can be recovered from them). From your reply it would appear that with your circumstances you should always pay for a guaranteed hire car to ensure you cover all options.0

and s most people don't have a car as hobby they need a replacement to go to work next day
I'm with Keith on this.
If someone desperately needs a car every day then they should pay a little bit extra for the relevant option.
It should not be the default because some of us are quite happy to get a train/bus.
So if you want it then buy it.0 -
maybe, but giving choice has got us into the position we are in now with credit hire filling the gap and adding £80 to every policy.
Surely it's better for all to get rid of the choice, give everybody a guaranteed hire car then the insurance companies will stop using CH and can reduce all premiums by £600
