Didn't know if to laugh or rant, 8 year old willy pride

Its hard going this kids growing up lark. Kids got digital cameras at Christmas. Just had a flick through my 8 year old sons pics and found a couple of self-portraits of his erm 'appendage' at full mast, he is obviously proud of this and decided to record it for posterity.

Now I do understand that there will be an increasing degree of curiosity about such things, so I am not particularly disturbed, except what if I had just uploaded to a printing site without checking? might have had the police kicking down the door by now!

Well I showed him the evidence and gave a stern talking to about the acceptable and intended uses of his camera and put to bed.

Would you leave it at that?

(Can't we just go back to nappies and cuddly toys again? :rotfl:)

  • Yes The more of a deal you make of it, the more his curiosity will be piqued. I also have an 8 year old with a "man" obsession, but he hasn't felt the need to do that yet  He will parade gleefully around the house naked at any given opportunity though, and I know the more I notice, the more he does it.
PS We do make it clear to him though that his man is his own private business and not everyone will be as interested in seeing it as he is ;)

My 6 year old loves making it go all straight...makes him laugh no end! But no pictures taken of it just yet. I shall try to keep a straight face when that day comes!

sorry but that made me giggle! I have three kids - a girl and two boys and they are grown up now, but, yes, we went through the 'willy' bit, and the 'omg, I am NOT going to have hair there!' bit!
I think you handled it right.

The only time I got stressed with my son was when I caught him prancing around naked infront of his open bedroom window. Apart from that, I just tell him to keep his hands out of his pants - or at least leave it alone until he's in his bedroom....
  • My 8 year old son is the same too....and i have also found pics of him on his camera, he thought it was highly amusing, he will also absentmindedly sit with his hand down his trousers. We had to have a major talk about the right and wrong things to do etc a few years ago when he was 5. My ex neighbours son and my son were playing in the garden when we caught them under the trampoline with their trousers down and my neighbours son laid on top of my lad (his front to my lads back).....needless to say i flipped and all hell broke loose. So we had to have 'the talk' a lot earlier then i expected to lol.

I have 4 and 1 year old girls too and im not even begining to think about whats to come with them lol
