EDF dual fuel discount not applied to gas?

Hi Moneysavers!

A quick question for you all...

I get my gas & electricity from EDF Energy and I've just looked at my two most recent bills and noticed that the gas bill lists my tariff as "Dual fuel gas tariff direct debit" whereas the electricity bill says, "Standard electricity tariff DD" with no mention of dual-fuel and obviously no DF discount applied.

I've phoned EDF and they said this is normal: the dual-fuel discount is only applied to the gas bill, not electricity.

It seems a bit odd to me! Can anyone here confirm?

Thanks for any assistance.

This is quite common. Other suppliers do similar machinations.
  • Yeah, British Gas only apply the discount to the one fuel, perfectly normal.

Oh no, not another thing I don't understand. :o

    Is it a percentage discount?

Is it calculated on the combined total unit cost of gas and electricity but only applied to the gas?

Or is it a false marketing trick where you think you are getting more than is really the case?

Thanks for your help guys - much appreciated.

    Backfoot,
My electric bill lists a dual-fuel discount that is fixed at £2 per quarter whereas the gas bill has no discount applied, hence my question. This is in addition to a discount on both bills for paying monthly by direct debit.

I'm still confused because the EDF website says,
"Get discounts worth up to £50* on your energy bills when you become a Dual Fuel EDF Energy customer"

where the * is small-printed as,
"*Total discount is £50.40, which is made up of a Monthly Direct Debit discount for gas of £16.80 and £8.40 for electricity and a Dual Fuel discount for Monthly Direct Debit customers of £25.20 per year."

But my dual-fuel discount is only £8 per year, not £25.20!

Checking mine which is Online Saver 7, I get 6% Direct Debit discount shown against each of the gas and electricity accounts.

Then I get a further £8.40 incl VAT for dual fuel discount which is credited to the gas account.

That's what the Terms and Conditions say anyway, but in reality no bills have yet been received which resemble any of that. In fact they aren't even billed on the thing I signed up for.:rotfl:

You didn't say which tariff you were on?
