Hire Car Damaged

Hi

We have a hire car while ours is being repaired due to a claim where other party at fault.

Wife got call yesterday to say we had had the car for x days and that is all they cover so she is no longer to drive the car but more importantly the car is not insured.

I just left the house and a passer by told me that they heard a crash and looked up the road to see someone speeding away from the hire car but they did not get any details save it was a dark mid sized car.

at first i could not see anyu damage but on cloer inspection the bonnet has a dent and the grill and number plate are broken.

My question is who is liable? I suspect it will be us up until the car is returned but how they end our insurance before they collect the car?

Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

The car will be insured, but your wife is not insured to drive it.

And presumably not responsible for the damage?

So does this mean we aren't liable?

I'd say not, the hire had ended, it was parked awaitng collection, if they had collected it promptly then it would have been elsewhere when the accident happened

If its helphire or drive assist they will hold you liable, up until collected.

Don’t celebrate too much yet as the hire firm might have a different view…… (might = certainly)

You case would be dramatically strengthened if you had independent evidence (witness or police report) of time & date the accident happened
