Feel sick- renting with bad credit :(

  • What are telling the agents for them to be so harsh?
I have 5 defaults and managed to rent with an agent in a desirable area, they were only bothered about me proving income. If you can get a reference from the last landlord and prove income I dont see any issues.
From what I gather the ccj/bankruptcy issue is as much to do with insurance as anything else. They will want your business and shouldnt want to try and catch you out.

    Good luck. :)
  • Hi when we had to move house recently in a similar situ the estate agents didn't ask about our credit rating and we didn't tell them. When we found a house they asked for employment details (and checked them out) and a reference from previous landlords but that was all. Maybe try with another agency and don't mention the credit?

  • It is not hopeless - we have awful credit rating and have rented lots of places (on average one every year or so). For our most recent move we discovered OH had a CCJ that we were unaware of until the searches came back. Luckily the CCJ was for a fairly small amount and we could clear it. We got written confirmation that it had been cleared and the landlord was happy enough with this. If you know you have no CCJs it might be worth trying agents but not mention the poor credit up front. If you can afford the rent and have a good landlord and employer reference it may be ok.

I'm a previous bankrupt and it wasn't an issue, we paid 6 months up front, otherwise we would need a guarantor.

I would just use your guarantor and you'll be fine :)
