wiping laptop

My HP laptop has stopped working this week - think it is cpu unit (or whatever it is called).
I am hoping to sell it on ebay for spares/repair - however obviously want to delete all the info off first.
I can not get it turned on anymore; therefore if i wipe the removeable hard drive will this clear anything i have saved/stored on the laptop. Or is there anything else i need to do - don't forget can't get it turned on anymore.
Thanks

The safest approach would be to remove the HDD and sell it without one.
Next best is to buy an adaptor off eBay that will allow you to connect it to another computer, and then use DBAN or something similar to securely erase the HDD's content.
I can't recommend a specific product, as that depends on the type of drive you have, but if you search on eBay for laptop hdd adaptor there are plenty there and they aren't expensive.0
