laptop running slow, please help!

Hi could anyone offer me any help. my laptop going slow. i have removed a few programes that i dont use anymore but that hasnt helped.
its only a few years old (4 yrs approx) took our photos off it and stored them on a memory stick.

only use it for skype and internet.

    photos on a hard disk don't affect speed, if that's your only copy, I'd copy (not move) them straight back so you have 2 or more copies and follow this

    switching off defender and replacing avg with avast might be a good starting point

    similarly the only programs that affect speed are ones that create startup items.

    Try installing "Advanced System Care" (it's free) and let it look at your pc, including what is loaded at start up.

    CCleaner is much less aggressive, also free. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
    If you must use a registry cleaner this is the safest.
    Do not switch off Defender unless you have some other anti-virus protection and firewall or slow running won't be the problem, no running will.
