Help using a windows based email address

Hi I used to be with talktalk but now use a 3 dongle, can I still set up a windows email address or do I have to use a web based email address -I've got a gmail one but wanted to set up one with microsoft outlook, but as I haven't got a username to put it I assume that I can't do it?

Outlook is an e-mail program for sending and receiving e-mails and others like a calender. You cannot set an e-mail address up with it. You need an existing e-mail address from a e-mail provider or your ISP (not recommended even if available) or your own domain to setup an e-mail account in it.

Email accounts are available from a number of providers. If you get an email account from your ISP, they will probably delete or block your account if you leave them, so it's probably a good idea to get an account that isn't contingent on your continued custom.

Different email providers will allow you to access your email in different ways: with some providers you can only access your account via a website, while others will require you to use an email client (such as Outlook or Thunderbird) that's installed on your computer. Many providers will allow access via either method.

If you already have a GMail account that you want to access via Outlook, then it looks like you need to enable IMAP and follow some simple instructions. This link from Google should help:

  • As esuhl said it's possible, also it is possible to use something like GMX.com as a second address or hotmail/live. Are you also talking about Outlook Express or Outlook as your client. Personally I would suggest you look at Thunderbird (and it's calendar counterpart Lightning) both free from mozilla.org. I always suggest that those using webmail based mail don't leave your contacts on the Cloud, keep them on your pc where you have a little more control on who can access it.

  • I recommend gmx.com , you can have up to 10 email addresses with them, and online storage. You can also use outlook or windows mail to collect your mail ( or just log in at gmx). Hope this helps.

    This page: http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/accountsettings.htm#gmail
gives a step-by-step on how to setup Outlook to work with Gmail (and others)
Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.
