Lucky or not? (bank error)

How would you like it if someone took money from you by accident?0

Close account > Shutup shop > Move to FD > Happy life?
Just a thought. Would it work? (of course the substance of the error would have to be large enough to make you change banks)..
Oh! 101 posts, dammit why could it not have come where I had something profound to say..0 -
OK maybe I should of worded it like this Mr. Smart-!!!.
Has anyone got away with a bank error before. BETTER?
A former colleague did.
He did an internet transfer.
It didn't work.
He rang the bank, they did the transfer.
The transfer appeared twice in the destination account.
But was only debited once from the source account.
This happened over 6 years ago, and was never rectified.
Apparently, it was a nice sum of money, but he wouldn't tell me how much it was.
Suppose it could only have been a few quid, who knows.
Or he may just be winding me up.0 -
We were shocked to see that £495 was taken out of our account.
So we obviously phoned them and they stopped the cheque which was fine.
How does that work then? If the cheque had gone through Clearing and debited the account ..... 'tis not possible to Stop it. The Banks have internal mechanisms to make adjustments between them where wrong values are claimed ..... Stopping the cheque is not one of them.
Think you're on a wind up.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Sorry to bump an old post up dude but to answer your question, we noticed it was "taken out" via internet banking. Like i said in previous posts nothing was ever taken out, but on Internet Banking we could see the amount the cheque was going to be for...
Like if you deposit a cheque it shows under your balance in hsbc online but not as an available balance if you know what i mean?
Anyway it was all sorted and they sent us out a £20 hamper lol (it was just full of sweets and chocolates with a sorry letter)0
