Hi, we are going down to Reading for a few days in April and have been considering going into London for the day, when I have looked at rail websites its coming back about £50 each return, there are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 children and was wondering what the price would be to just turn up at the station?

thanks in advance

The only day returns from Reading to London that are over £50 each are some First Class ones.

An Off Peak Day Return is £16 to London Terminals.
If you want a Travelcard included, then it becomes £20.50. Both for one adult.
Valid from approx 9am on some trains from Reading.

So that's £48.00 or £61.50 respectively for all four of you.

Those fares drop again if you have a Family and Friends Railcard.
    To £27.20 and £34.90.
So worth getting a F&F Railcard.
    Get one here for £19.50.

So total for four including Railcard and Travelcard could be £54.50.

Just to make it clear, Wealdroam's prices are those you would pay just turning up at the station - apart from getting the discounted F&F card in advance

Reading doesn't have cheap advance fares to London
  • Just a comment about getting the London pass included in the ticket - it really is worth getting doing that. The very least you would pay is £3.80 for 2 singles (not much use if you are being a tourist!), or £6.60 for the cheapest travel card... as well as saving what is often a long wait at the underground station to get a ticket :-)

Ooh, and returning, there are limited trains between about 4pm and 7pm (you'd need to confirm the exact times). There are one or 2, but it would be best to actually check the possible times or you may have to hang around a bit.
