Housing benefit question

Hi,asking for my niece,who'd av em,she isn't to clued up about housing benefit,due to her not doing to well on getting a council property,she has enquired about a privatley rented accommodation,I think it's around £550,don't quote me on this,I'm not to sure on what kind of benifit,but she has one child and single,so how would she stand on this ? I know the lettting people do want a two month down payment,which may be a bit tough,I don't know if she would get any help with this,any help experiences greatly received.

She needs to put her details into www.turn2us.co.uk. She also needs to know the Local Housing Allowance for her area - the maximum she can claim.
Her local council may run a tenancy deposit scheme. She needs to ask.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

It depends on the LHA rate for her area as previous poster says but she will not get her full rent covered at that amount I wouldn't think. You can usually do a "trial calculation" online which are easy to use if your local council has this option. Or just phone your benefits section they will be happy to give the info.0
