A friend of mine recieved a letter around 12months back saying that they needed to paid no child maintence for her husbands son (who he never see's by the way through no fault of huis own as his ex partner wont allow him to) his ex partner has appealed against this and won the csa have now sent them a letter sayin they need to pay £1700 as it has been backdated to 2009 and they will be taking £70 a week out of his wages which is completly unreasonable as they have 2 children to support plus household bills thereself is there anything they can do about this? thanks

Post over on the child support board in the benefits section as there are ex-CSA employeers on there for advice etc.
It seems harsh, but i guess it depends on the facts of the case and the reasons the appeal was granted. He might benefit from some advice from his MP.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

If i was you i would be tempted to post on the csa board, you will get better/more specialist advice there.
Depends on the individuals case, they shoudl have kept the csa informed of any changes once the nil assessment was made (i doubt the case was closed at this point). so if they have taken a new job/more money/over time etc then they are liable.
CSA can take max 40% of wages, so at £70 a week he is earning £180ish (rough guess) - so more than enough to be paying maintenance. Maintenance for 1 child is 15% of income (minus some if other kids involved) then they add tax credits onto the income - the amount is dependant upon who earns the most in the household..lots and lots of info to consider.
As i say, others will be able to advise much better than me, i only know what i know as i am a PWC and a NRPP so i deal with them regulary from both sides of the coin. Kelloggs is who you need to hunt down, she will be along shortly0
