Has anyone been to woburn Abbey or Longleat?

Hi Money Savers,

Although I love big cats and animals generally I have never been to a safari park so it's on my list to do this summer. I would love to know what people think of these places.

Additionally, I can't see any deals on the site here does anyone know of any discounts going? (we're all over 21 in our house, no children as such)

Thank you

Money saving Gal ;)

  • Hello Money saving Gal!

Just quickly read your post, i haven't been to Longleat, but i have recently been to Woburn Safari Park. I would definitely recommend it as somewhere to go in the summer! You can drive around like you were actually on safari with the whole 'monkeys climbing on your car' scenario! It is SO much fun!
There are also areas you can get out and walk, and even a lake area where you can get in a pedalo, nice food/picnic areas too.

If you are planning on going there, i would also suggest you take a look at the Go Ape part. It's a high wire forest adventure course! Loads of rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides... all set high up in the trees. Serious fun for the big kids among us.

    Hope this helps :)

I went to Woburn Safari Park a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. Didn't take my car through the monkey enclosure, have heard too many stories lol!

Note, Woburn Safari Park and Woburn Abbey are separate attractions, though you might be able to get a combined ticket

  • Hi Amy & Dave,

Thanks for the feedback - I'm def. going to head for a safari park in the summer. However, I might have to dodge the monkeys - company car! Loving the sound of it all though, we're all big kids so we will have fun!

Nice to 'chat' - this forum is great isn't it?

    Hi Money Saving Gal,

Don't know Woburn, but we've been to Longleat a few times. The safari park is great, however the monkey enclosure is currently closed as they have had a type of Herpes virus which means they've had to stop the public driving through.

When we went there last year they said it was likely to remain closed until they could sort out an alternative way of no direct contact with the monkeys. Whilst it is good fun to drive through them, they can do a lot of damage to peoples cars. We have seen cars having all the rubber trim pulled off, wiper blades even the tubing for the windscreen washers pulled out by a monkey on top of someones car. I think the secret is to keep moving while you drive through, the cars we saw being stripped had stopped and the monkeys were all over them.

There are two types of tickets to Longleat, you can do just the Safari park or you can get a passport ticket that allows you entry into a lot of other attractions as well, you can do each attraction once, and you can come back on a different day if you want to finish off all the things.

You can get Longleat Passport tickets using Tesco Clubcard vouchers, and the local tourist information offices can sell tickets at a slightly reduced price.

Also should add that if you've got a caravan, there is a Caravan Club campsite at Longleat in the grounds which a lovely place to stay.

    Hope that helps

I have been to both and would have to say I preferred Longleat, probably because of the variety of things it had to offer. Woburn was good too though, more of a zoo as well if thats what you are looking for.
  • Cheap day out at Woburn Safari if you go to the craft fair

  • I have been to both - they are both great but for what they are both quite expensive. I am going next week for the craft fair and discount admission as I'm not far from Woburn.

I went to Longleat last summer - they have lots of different attractions - if you get a passport ticket you don't have to do each bit in one day. We stayed overnight so we could not rush and spread it out.

They both get very busy though and if its a hot day remember that the animals don't like it and spend a lot of time lazing in the shade so you may not see as much! Queues are also quite big at each and we waited over an hour stuck in the middle of Longleat safari drive.

You can use clubcard vouchers for Longleat if you have them!

Which ever you decide you'll have a fab day :)
  • Hi Money Savers, Wow thanks for all the brilliant tips! I think I might have to go to both now...loving the money saving tips BTW and the tip about the caravan site - makes me want to go out and BUY a caravan!

Thank you for being so kind and going to so much trouble to help me, I hope I can return the favour to each of you one day.

    Best wishes MSG
