and they said it was because the deal i was on has gone up by 35%
i was on sign on line 18
they said the deal was still on but the price has finished
they also said that the fee for moving had been cancelled

That is outrageous! And there was I getting all hot under the collar because I've had a letter today from EDF advising me of their increased charges from 2nd March.

I've applied the new unit charges (and they've now introduced a standing daily charge) to my last bill and the increase is 11.92% which equates in my case to roughly and extra £1.67 a week.

I thought that was bad enough, but 35% by npower !!! That's downright robbery. :(

No it is not. It is a bargain - ie, you have been on a very low tariff and received cheap prices for a while. Once you are bumped back in to the real world you receive a rude awakening.

Instead of bemoaning the rise you should be celebrating the excellent choice you made ages ago.

I've just had my letter from EDF today and based on my annual gas and electric usage, my total annual bill will be going up by17.23%.
I'm on Online Saver 6 tariff (until End Jun 2011) and the increased tariff is exactly the same as their new Online Saver 9 tariff.

EDF claim in their website FAQ's that:

"Does this increase effect both gas and electricity?
Yes, by on average 7.5% for electricity and 6.5% for gas."

In fact my gas units have gone up 15.4% and my electric units have gone up by 26.38%

How do they get away with such bullsh!t in their FAQ's?

I have the same situation with npower Sign online 19 more then 35% increase on the first 4572kWh per year from 4.483p to 6.109p per kWh. And this has nothing to do with the announced average increase 5.1% as this is mainly regarding the standard tariff. Nice trick luring people on the cheap tariff and then rise the prices. BRAVO. I've been with other utility providers and would understand 5% or maybe even 10%, but on average my bill will go up by about 20%. This is just outrageous and because the rise was mostly for the expensive first kWh that means the less gas you use the bigger the increase.

When my contract with them is finished, if not terminated earlier, I think npower will join British Gas in my list of companies not to deal with.
  • Same here, npower join Sky, Fiat and Tesco in firms I never deal with.
