Bengals

I'm after some advice concerning Bengals.
Anyone with any experience with them.
I just want them as pets not to breed or anything and they'd be house cats as I live near a busy road.
I have plenty of space so them having to be house cats should'nt be a problem.
I don't have any cats at the moment but always had until a couple of years ago so was just wondering if Bengals are any different to the average moggie.
I was considering getting two kittens but wondered if they were more of a handful than other cats.
I've had Siamese in the past and they've been no problem.
Any info would be appreciated.

  • I have had cats over the years (& dogs!!). Although I am by no means an 'expert' on Bengals, I would say that as you've previously had an oriental cat, they are not that much different.

I have had cats (& dogs) over the years, Persian, Colorpoint and a variety of moggies. Currently have two half Maine Coone sisters and a young Bengal which are all house cats.

I was lucky enough to be given a Bengal kitten by a friend. He's certainly a live wire and I would say quite highly strung. He is by far the most intelligent cat I've owned. Bengals are very vocal cats, so if you want a quiet life, they're not for you. They certainly make their presence known - be it yelling for food or just talking to you. The coat of a Bengal is complete different to normal cats. It is more like a pelt - very beautiful which has a gold sheen running thru it. It does not shed like a normal cat's coat. Despite his diminutive size, compared to the half Maine Coones, he is bold and likes to think he's top cat and tries to rule the roost!! He has no problems at all with the other cats or my 3 Springers Spaniels. I personally don't think they are any more of a handful than normal moggies. If you did go for two kittens from the same litter, they would be company for each other and obviously channel they energy and enthusiam for life on each other, not become bored and leave the carpets, curtains etc alone!!!

As I've said I am not an expert by any means and hope you'll find my comments of some use to you.

A friend of mine has 2 she "babysits" for in her home (they belong to her daughter). I can't say I noticed anything different about them to any other cat. They are both gorgeous wee things, one really friendly and cuddly ,the other a bit less interested but then all cats have their own wee ways as you know...lol

    Btw...they are brother and sister
  • I've never had Bengals but know people who do/have. They're higher maintenance than a moggy, quite dog like. They need lots of stimulation and play time as they're very active and intelligent.

I do love them, if I wasn't so passionate about rescue cats they'd be close to the top of my list of dream peds, as it is, I'll take whatever needs a home most!
  • they can be a feisty breed, and very vocal

Both my cats are half bengal and they've each inherited good and bad points of the breed.

My boy is highly intelligent, he's more like a dog. He can work out how to open things after one attempt, he knows how to play fetch, he knows some basic commands and he's just super clever! He's also super clingy sometimes.

My girl cat is very vocal. She talks constantly, wether you're listening (or awake) or not! It can get quite annoying at 3 in the morning! She's made a very strong bond with us as her owners and won't really tollerate being apart from us from very long. She's really highly strung and really doesnt take well to change but I think that's true of most cats. She does have the most beautiful coat in a cat I've ever seen. It's so soft and shiny and the previous poster is correct in saying that it's more like a pelt. I love that she talks to us a lot but sometimes it can get irritating haha
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
