i dont really know what to do. at the beginning of the year i was refused critical illness cover. my sister has MS, my dad had a brain tumour removed 10 years ago (which can be hereditary but i have been investigated and am fine) as well as diabetes and i have had a variety of non life threatening illnesses throughout my life although i am perfectly healthy (and only 29). i cant actually remember who i tried to get insurance with but they were recommended by an independent mortgage adviser. i told him about the illnesses in my family and he basically told me not to mention them but i ignored him and did it anyway!! is there any companies who might be more sympathetic to my situation?? or should i ask my mortgage advisor to ring around and see who will give me insurance regardless of my history and family situation??
i wish i was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum,
'cause how can you be grumpy when the sun shines out your bum!!!

I am shocked that your mortgage adviser told you not to mention these illnesses. If you had taken his advice and then ever come to claim under the policy then it would have come to light that your didnt disclose all the relevant info about your health and the claim would have been declined. Whenever applying for insurances never lie or withhold information. Your 'adviser' will get into serious trouble eventually if he carries on doing this.
Ditch your mortgage adviser ASAP and get decent IFA who knows what they are doing is my advice.I am a director of Torquil Clark Life Insurance (formerly Life Policies Direct), a specialist protection broker. Posts on this forum do not constitute or imply advice and are for discussion purposes only containing generic information. If you need individual guidance please seek advice from a suitably qualified, registered and authorised financial adviser0 -
The financial services industry is so much better than it was in the old days but you do come across the odd individual who shouldnt be giving advice still. You have seen someone that is a disgrace and shouldnt be allowed to get away with that.
It is a potentially sackable offence if he is employed. It is that serious.
You would be paying to a policy that would never pay you out on a claimable event because it was set up fraudulently.
As jasonking says, ditch the mortgage adviser and go with an IFA and seriously consider making a complaint. How many others has he stitched up like this? This type of individual needs to be removed from the industryI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
You could try G.F. Baskeyfield and Company (01625) 610022. I use them as they are good at finding insurance for people with IBD. However they may be able to help you as others seem to class you as a high risk.
