Windows Automatic Update problem UPDATED

Ok please bear with me as i dont know all the technical jargon so i will try and explain it the best i can.:rotfl:
Yesterday morning i installed an update that windows had found during it's automatic search shortly after i had switched on my computer. I have got my windows update set to install updates automatically everyday.
Yesteday afternoon i noticed ( any i dont know why i was even on there now) that my windows update page had a big red cross (intead of the green tick) and said never check for updates (or something like that) and said most recent check for updates- never, updates were installed- never. It must have happened after i completed the update earlier in the day.
I then did a manual search for updates (14.38pm) so i now have the green tick and it says 4 optional updates available and shows the most recent check as yesterday afternoon. It still says updates installed- never.
This morning i have switched my computer on and noticed that my computer/windows is not automatically checking for updates. If i go to computer, windows, windowsupdate and view the notepad log i can see that after running though the first initial checks having just turned the computer on it is not doing the ##START## AU search for updates bit.
If i look back through the log (as far back as the end of January) it always says that within a few minutes of turning the computer on everyday.
Does anyone have any idea why my computer/windows is no longer searching for updates automatically when i switch it on? I dont know what to do to get it back.
Sorry just had a thought. Because i did a manual search for updates at 14.38pm yesterday afternoon does that mean that windows/my computer will not automatically search for more updates until roughly the same time today? I just wondered if it only automatically checks every 24 hours and so because i did a manual update it will not check again until 24 hours have passed since then.
Right ignore all that :rotfl:
I turned my computer off whilst i popped in the shower and when i turned it back on and checked the windowsupdate notepad log it did search for updates finding 4. ( i presume the 4 that are optional) So that is that panic over, it is automatically checking for updates still.
However can i just check something with someone who knows. Even though my computer/windows has automatically checked for updates today when i click on control panel, security, check for updates it is still saying most recent check for updates as 14.38 yesterday.
Is that right? should it not show the most recent check as this morning when my computer/windows checked for upates. I'm confused
Sorry i really am not that computer literate.
