Numbering files in a folder quickly.

I have micro SD card with 299 MP3 files on to use in my car. I need to renumber each track (1 -299).

I don't really fancy sitting here for hours renaming each file.

Is there a way of doing this automatically either using DOS or by using software.

You could from Explorer ctrl+a then select edit rename and enter say MP1 , they will get renamed mp1 (1) , mp1 (2) etc if you dont like that then select edit undo rename. that way they will in the same order as you sorted originally.

Did you put in leading zeros e.g. 002?
If not the MP3 player may well put 100 ahead of 11 ahead of 2 etc. Although that may not matter depending on what you want to achieve.
