  • dont forget all travel companies have their own website where you can go on the hotel link and book from 1 night only. compare prices.
  • I stayed in the Sol Melia in Berlin. Cant recomend it enough. Lovely hotel. They also had a deal that if you joined their reward club (cant remember the exact name) the breakfast was half price. The breakfast was very nice. It gave us a good start for the day & meant that we didnt really have to eat lunch.

Just did a quick search for a hotel in Palmanova in May, and for the same hotel, TravelRepublic actually came out cheaper and you pay in sterling.

If you made the Melia booking through TCB @ 6.06% it would come out about the same, depending on euro rates.

The other thing is, if you cancel the hotel through TCB/Melia hotels there`s a 1 night charge if done before 24 hours.

    TR is
More than 14 days before departure
Loss of deposit (20% of booking value, inc any low deposit special offer)

14 days or less before departure 100% of booking value

Sol Melia do an online price guarantee:

Do you really think it's worth looking for a better price on another website? Then you haven't heard about our Lowest Online Rate. Guaranteed.
Solmelia.com guarantees you will not find a better price on any other website. If you find a lower price within 24 hours of making your booking at http://www.solmelia.com, after checking it we will match the lower price and also add an extra 10% discount. If the hotel is located in the Americas (except Brazil and Cuba) we will give you not just 10% off, but a whacking 20% discount off the price you booked.
To make a claim read our conditions and fill in our form

It's as easy as that ...
    • 1.-You book a room in our hotel for 100€.
    • 2.- In the next 24 hours you find another website with the same hotel, same room, same dates, etc. at 90€€ for example.
    • 3.- You fill in our claim form
    • 4.- We check the lower rate is available and bookable online and, if so, we give you the same lower rate plus an extra 10% discount. The room only costs you 81€€ instead of 100€€

    Lynsey,

I`m not knocking anything just pointing out alternatives.
I could, though, see problems trying to use their claim form due to currency exchange rates and time/hassle.

I do quite often book direct with Spanish hotels and like I said you have the advantage of only paying 1 night if you cancel.

I know, I was just pointing out the "guarantee" as I've seen it before.
I understand your point about cancelling and I usually book through a booking company as well. I don't book via Sol Melia (or Riu), because there is normally a minimum nights stay (3 days etc.).

Getting the "bottom price" is the main issue.
