Nissan Micra Advice - Engine Cutting Out

Hi All,
Hoping you may be able to advise here. I have a Nissan Micra (2004) which has had a number of random things go wrong on it since I've owned it. Latest tonight was driving home and on slowing/braking my engine would just cut out - no sound/nothing, Revs would drop from 2 to 0 in a flash and the Oil/Engine/Battery light would come on and I'd have to restart.
It's just done 53K and reading the interwebs I fear it may be the dreaded timing chain - but thought I would put this out here for advice as I'm not to sure whether the symptoms above would be sign of a stretched timing chain? Or should I be looking at something else. Has been drinking a bit more petrol than usual recently :-(
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
-EB

Well, sent the wee car off with the mechanic so lets see what he says :-)0

is it a new shape micra?
i have had micra's that behaved as you described, and that was the fuel filter full of crap, needed replacing, but those micras were a few years older than yours...0 -
Sounds like an ICV fault (idle control valve)“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Yeh it's the new shape Micra - to be honest it's been a pain since I bought it. Had to have various bits and bobs replaced (such as a new radiator!) when it hasn't even done that much mileage over the 7 years. I'd noticed it had been drinking a lot more fuel recently
How much would you estimate if it needed to have the ICV replaced? Or indeed the Fuel Filter?0 -
the fuel filter on mine was a tiny job, but it wasnt a new shape micra, so there's a good chance that i am very wrong. think the part was only about £300

Well, Mechanic came back after fiddling around with it today, changing spark plugs and the like. He thinks it's the Throttle Body Motor and was quoted £520 (inc VAT) for a new one!
He's managed to source a secondhand one for £100 so i told him to go with that, praying to the motoring gods that it will fix the issue0
