I've got my car on gumtree/freeads and pistonheads at the moment with nobody wanting it!

one years mot on it and I advertised it for £500, thought it would be long gone by now......

The problem I suppose down my way the scrappies are paying £225 for any car guaranteed, so its close to scrap.

but you could run it around for the 12 months and then if it fails badly then scrap it.

now got signs in the windows of it as well......

I'm surprised ... what is it?

I had no difficulty selling a 265,000 mile Primera with dents all over the place and short tax/test for £300. That car was a relative shed.

    Daewoo Lanos 3dr, silver, 1999 "V"

I put it through an MOT and it only failed on a rear wheel bearing so I had it done thinking that someone would buy it with a years MOT, rather than a few weeks left. shows me how wrong i can be sometimes!!

Knock it down £100... and consider selling on ebay.

I also sold a Daewoo Nubira in decent condition but also with short tax/test last year, a couple of years older than yours, and it sold for £325 on ebay.

Would have thought there would have been at least some demand for a repackaged Corsa, but there you go.

Do we know what variant of Elantra the OP has?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Ah nuts... didn't notice that :)

It's also the wrong age and probably the wrong colour -- 'twas only an example :)

Quick update - apologies for not getting back to you all, internet troubles!

I hadn't realised you could pull Parkers prices on t'internet. Mine is (was) a 1.6 Si Elantra, looks pretty much identical to the one in the Parker photo.

Thanks for all the advice; prior to this, I had assumed that it would be best either being scrapped or sent off to webuyanycar.com. A quick price check with them wanted to give me c. £150 quid, hence why I thought it was valueless.

Well, the Fiat garage actually gave me a decent price (as I didn't realise it would have a value left to it until this thread) and gave me £450 for it - quite a result, and that's with all superficial damage as described, etc.

So, a quick thank you to all of you for helping me realise that it wasn't quite as terrible as I thought - despite my (now ex!) mechanic advising me to just sell it to the scrappy!

A rule of thumb: If even WBAC offer more than £50, then it must be worth something :)

They offered £50 for both my old jalopies and I managed to make over £600 from them in the end.

£450 for a quick sale is OK. I just hope that the car gets a new lease of life somewhere down the line -- would hate to think that yet another perfectly serviceable car is on its way to the crusher! :(

At the end of the day, if a car is serviceable then it has residual value. Look around at all the cars that are far worse than yours still on the road. My approach to the subject has always been that if it isn't letting me down it remains part of the fleet -- no way am I not getting every penny of value out of it. That's money saving :D
