Seat Leon Service

Hi, Can anyone help me? My Seat Leon is due a 40,000 mile service, does that mean that I need to get the cambelt changed as well? Also, would that be included in the service or do I pay separately?

Any ideas on how much it would cost?

Not at work at the moment so can't get the info but if memory serves, Seat don't specify intervals, depending on the engine, unlike other VAG cars which most have specific mileage/time intervals.

I can check the data tomorrow if you post the year and engine size/fuel type, unless some helpful bod posts it first.

Most of the VAG engines are usually a visual check at 60k or 4 years, and a visual check every 20k after that. Of course, the less honest garages will inspect it and say it's got signs of wear etc etc so if in doubt, get a second opinion.

A dealer could cost upto £400 depending on engine and where you are in the country, but a decent independant could shave 30-50% off that.

And yes, it is extra to the service unfortunately :(

Thank you for the info - it's a 1.6 petrol 08 plate. It needs an MoT - but i'm getting that done at the little garage up the road, I am figuring that it will be cheaper there.

So I take it in, and wait to see if they say it needs changed?

Also, stupid question, but if it is still under warranty, can I get the service done at an independent rather than at a main dealer?

Sorry, i'm trying not to sound like a lady who knows nothing when she takes her car into the garage.

    Thanks again!

An MOT should be £54.85 where ever you go. If it's due an MOT it wont be under warranty, but if you are talking about extended warranty then it is 'advisable' to use the dealer, but you can technically take it anywhere as long as genuine parts are used in line with manufacturers specifications etc.

The cambelt is due at 4yrs or 60k, which ever comes 1st, so if it is currently at 40k and not officially 4 years old yet then the belt is not due.

Sorry missed your early morning post - will check tomorrow and confirm the cambelt interval. Not saying Titherev is wrong, but I'd prefer to check for my own peace of mind!

+1 on getting your service done elsewhere - you won't void the warranty as long as parts used are equal to Seat specification, but you may blow your chances of getting any 'goodwill' from Seat on any future repairs. (This is where something fails just outside the warranty period but the manufacturer contributes to the repair as a gesture of goodwill - always worth asking your dealer if this happens as many people don't even know this is possible)

If MOT is due soon, must be near end of standard warranty? If this is the case then IMO, a good independant garage can be just as good as a dealer (not picking on Seat here - applies to all!)

Hi, checked th latest info at work - Cambelt is due a check at 60k and then every 20k but no set change interval - be guided by the garage and get a second opinion if you're not happy!

Flash, Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated!

I'll check my warranty, it was something I was 'sold' when I bought the car, but now I think about it, i'm not entirely sure what I was actually sold!
