Rac car insurance cancellation

Hi we got the AUTO renewal in Feb was 4 X greater than last year So we phoned and canceled (so what do they do then) they tried to take the £2500.00 from my account (switch card).
But I change banks 6 mths ago and closed all the accounts and they couldn't get the payment even though I had tried to cancel
I phoned & spoke to expert at arguing the toss they said they had phone recordings that only show a discussion not a cancellation they are threatening over the phone with some sort of action if we don't pay £20.00.
Anyone know where we stand with this one
Thanks in advance any replies welcome

It does appear more and more common.
Ridiculous renewal price, and when you notice, ignoring the instructions not to renew.
Ask for a transcript of the conversation. and report them to the FOS.0 -
RAC motor insurance is adminsitered by the BGL group - BISL Limited.
Write to them with a formal complaint giving your policy number and asking for a copy of the phone recording. you might have to apply for a subject access request under the DPA - cost about £10 - and get all the recordings and records related to you they hold.
It is all very well saying "report them to FOS" but you can't do that untill you have followed a formal complaints process.
Assuming you did indeed make it clear in the phonecall that you did not want the automatic renew to go ahead then they don't have a leg to stand on and should sort everything out.0
