Will any car last longer than me?????
Mr car is a Honda Jazz five years old but only 28,000 miles and in really good condition.
My income has been very low since I was forced to retire from work a few years ago and I am now 63.
So I wonder how many more years could I reasonably get from my current car?
Or from my rapidly dwindling savings would I be better buying something newer, and what, and how long would that last.
My annual mileage is around 4,000.
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this decision.

Like many people and some of us younger than you our driving mileage has nose dived. Honda's should last many miles so long as you keep the servicing up. I wouldn't change your motor unless the cost to maintain became greater than the cost to change.0

A Jazz is a solid little car, and apart from wear and tear repairs you should have no real issue with it providing it's well maintained.
For the sake of 4k miles a year I'd not be thinking about swapping a 5 year old car for anything.0 -
A few points:
1) Any car, regardless of make or model, should give 15 years or so of reasonable service if it is looked after.
2) If you buy a newer car, you'll be spending perhaps £5000 on something that'll give you another 5 years. Why not put that £5000 away for a rainy day and/or the next car when yours finally gives up?
3) You know this car, and presumably you have found it to be reliable, so less reason to change.
4) Honda is one of the most solid manufacturers on the market, and the Jazz is one of their best cars. This particular car could still be going in 20 years if you treat it right. They don't rust any more (very few manufacturers do) and the mechanicals will run for a good long while.
Don't change the car, is what I think I (and everyone else) is saying

Thank you so much for all taking the time to help.
Already I am feeling easier in my mind that the right thing to do is keep the car. It is well looked after and has all the right services, etc.0 -
Put it this way, our last "second" car -- which covered a similar kind of mileage to your car -- was a cheap (and not terribly cheerful!) Daewoo Nubira 1.6SE. It was 14 when I sold it (after 7 years of more or less faultless service), and it still had another year or two left in it. It has been replaced with a 7 year old Mitsubishi, which I fully expect to run for the next five years at least.
If this car can make it to 14 years, a Honda will manage it with ease.
And the idea that old cars are unreliable is a myth. I've had a load of cars that are more than 7 or 8 years old, and not had significant issue with any of them.
In my view the only reason you should be considering selling your car would be to downgrade to an older one -- something I wouldn't recommend as you may end up with a lot worse than you already have.0 -
Like it has been said. Honda has a good reputuation. I would'nt even contemplate selling, you'd be mad.
28,000 miles is nothing. Its not even ' run in ', as they said ,in the olden days
I would just keep it regulaly serviced, and save your money for any repairs you may need, ( i doubt you'll be needing any, anytime soon ). You'll just be selling to give someone else the benefit of a tidy motor.
My car is old, and i accept there are going to be major repairs along the way. I just have to try and build up a repair fund, because when the repairs arise, they cost, for sure. But i don't intend to change my car, ever. Its me and it, for the duration, all being well.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?
