Chargeback

I want to initiate a chargeback against an online merchant who didn't deliver the goods I had ordered. I was offered a refund on 13th February but so far have not received any credit to my card. I just read an article on Ehow.com that seemed to suggest I have to give the merchant 30 days to apply the credit, can anyone tell me if this is correct, as I wish to proceed with the chargeback as soon as possible?
Thanks

Not sure about the 30 day rule for getting a refund but i do know that you have to wait 30 days after the order if it doesn't arrive, before you can initiate a chargeback via your card company. That is what i was told by mine,MBNA.Why not ring the card company and ask them? MBNA were very helpful to me.Luckily i didn't need to wait,i got a refund after a while, before the 30 days were up..
I do know that a promised refund can take up to a fortnight.i would get on to the company again and see if you can get a definitive date from them.0 -
Under the Distance Selling Regulations, retailers have up to 30 days from the notice of cancellation of a contract (i.e. when you inform them in writing that you want to cancel and refund) in which to complete the refund.
Assuming that they approached you about the refund, I guess that would be when you agreed that a refund would be acceptable. Otherwise it'll be the date that you approached them to cancel. At least, that's the way I see it, I stand ready to be corrected if needs be.
As far as the charge backs go, I'm not sure how that would work. I guess it's possible they would allow the 30 days, as I'm sure the card company would rather avoid the hassle if the retailer does pay out.
Have you been able to correspond with the retailer since? I know that sometimes, our returns dept. will process refunds which don't actually go through for various reasons, but they won't notice that the refund was declined as it's a minor 1 word difference. It's not until the customer contacts me or a colleague in customer services, that we become aware of the error and rectify it. So if you haven't already contacted them to query it, I would do so because it could be something really simple like that.
