  • Depends on what you want. Do you want a complete redesign, fit and finish, or do you want a design buy from a diy shed and fit yourself/get fitted by a tradesman???

Decide on your budget, shop around, look for sales and deals, barter one shop off with another, etc...

Go to showrooms and look at the quality of the display kitchens. Do they look tired or are they standing up well to the battering they take?

Do you have ideas of your own for a redesign or do you have a blank canvas?

Sorry to pose so many questions but it does all really depend on what you want and your budget. Once you've started to narrow things down then things will start to take shape.

    Hope this helps!
  • I am currently doing mine and we ended up at Wickes. Very pleased with the finish and extras like soft closing as standard. I went to loads of places and for me these were the best. First class CS and delivery etc. They can come to you or you can go in the shop for ideas.

If l knew how to post a picture l would show you
  • thanks guys for the advice. I've no idea what to look for, at the moment as mine is raw kitchen with small space and attached dining, no cupboards ,as wife wants a dishwasher, i thought i'll get this done whole new design by some professionals.I know B&Q or homebase or wicks does this ,but before goinf to them I want some advice from guys here who did this kind of thing before. so that I'll not be taken for ride.

Previously we have had one kitchen from Wickes, one from Focus and we are just having one put in our new kitchen extension which has come from MFI. They did the design and layout for us for free and gave us a 3D print out, and then my husband will fit it himself. If you have any Tesco clubcard vouchers you can spend them at MFI to save money as well.

cheap and best are at odds. I am in the industry. Value for money you may find a smaller independent retailer baet value for money. You realyy need to have a budget in mind then can advise with quantity style ideas. All big boys tend to be similar and are made by a few manufacturers. Ideally you are looking for rigid, not pre assembled flat pack passed off as rigid like some, colour coordinated. Good rule of thumb approx 2/3 cost of cupboard is door so choice of style can have huge impact on price without sacrificing any quality

  • We have a Wickes kitchen fitted earlier in the year and I seem to recall when buying it that the board is much thicker and robust than those from many of the other sheds (not sure of the technical info on this). We love the kitchen although unfortunately we've had a lot of problems due to the cowboy outfit that we chose to fit it and, like many others, we're in a battle to get the problems sorted out. I wish I could say who they are but it probably wouldn't be wise until I've got my kitchen sorted.

A bit later we had our utility room fitted with the same kitchen units by a friend who did a wonderful job.
  • I would advice choosing your kitchen and then finding a local tradesman to fit it. My kitchen cost £1200 all in from Builders Center 5 years ago and my dad (not a tradesman) fitted the lot - made easier as it was top-of-the-range and cupboards arrived built up.
One of my colleagues was going to order from B&Q - his kitchen is no bigger than mine and they wanted £2,500 for the kitchen with integrated washing machine, oven and hob, and fridge freezer - on top of that they wanted and extra £4000 for fitting!!!!!!!

Buy the kitchen you want and go local for fitting.

    Hi wireless

My wife and I have just finally managed to order a brand new kitchen after months of searching for a reputable supplier and at a good price. The prices ranges from £14,000 from Moben to £4000 from Homebase. Kitchens Direct were just so unhelpful and more intersted in fleecing you. We had an appointment with MFI for a kitchen design on a Sunday at 10.30 but when we turned up store was still shut and staff unhelpful and told to re-book for another day. I THINK NOT!!!

Finally we went to a home show in London at the Excel center where we got some really good contacts one of which was Kitchen Italia for a kitchen design and another for granite work tops. By going to these type of shows you get very good discounts. My wife and I were very prepared n quizing Kitchen Italia when they the young chap came around. I must be honest here that it was not needed as he asked all the right questions gave input into the design and even recommended some suggestions that we had not thought of which we have incorporated into the design. Kitchens Italia, we found, were an excellent company to deal with all round. With regards to appliances they do supply but recommend to customers that they would be better off buying these themselves. The kitchen units are solid carcasees even the rear unlike the flimsy boards you get with other companies who claim to be rigid carcasees. They have a number of samples which they bring with them so you know exactly what you are getting. All in all I highly recomend Kitchen Italia as I too went through a lot of pain and hassle when I went to buy my first kithen. Oh yes, i forgot to add the kitchen we chose, which had more units than when Moben designed it, came to £4450 minus the worktops and appliances (Moben wanted £14500, Kitchens direct wanted £10,500).

I'll let you do the maths on how much work tops and appliances cost ;-)).
