Miele KFN8452SD Fridge Freezer 4 years old freezes food in the fridge area. Miele customer service wants £111 inc VAT for engineer to come out parts not inc
I've read many cases online that this common problem might be caused by evaporator sensor possible part number 7323301 Cost £41 inc VAT and postage.
I've had a good look behind the light housing where this part is said to exist but can't see it there is however plastic panel with an unusual looking screw fitting. Can any tell me whether I'm going down the right line and how difficult this is to fit? Thank you.

Do you think or do you know?
Try a local independent Appliance Engineer. He will diagnose the exact problem and be a lot cheaper than Miele.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Hope it's OK to post on this old thread about my model of fridge, but I wanted to post a fridge-related experience I just had, to save everyone else money.
1) FRIDGE-FREEZER APPARENTLY FUSED DIAGNOSIS
I was adjusting the thermostat on the freezer of my KFN8452SD to "less cold" (there is a dial with a green light) and then the ENTIRE appliance went dead. The fridge was off too and there wasn't even a light.
I checked the socket had power and changed the fuse in the plug, to no avail.
I carried the entire contents of the freezer into my neighbour's secondary freezer in a shed during a torrential downpour.
When the engineer arrived several days later (Friday evening breakdown doh!), he was puzzled. He checked there was electricity at the socket and was considering whether the "control unit" needed replacing.
I noticed that, if the machine was unplugged, when power was restored the interior fridge light flickered on and off.
The engineer reset the freezer thermostat to colder and hey presto! it started to work.
Diagnosis: I had in fact turned the thing off myself, although the thermostat was at 2 o'clock.
When the freezer is turned off, so is the fridge - including the light!
I am now wiser. Do make sure this doesn't happen to you!
2) CHOICE OF ENGINEER
Miele would have charged over £100 to rush out in about a week. They mentioned a local service partner. Their engineer's expertise "only" cost me £60.
To sum up - before you go "is it a stockbroker? is it a quantity surveyor? is it a churchwarden? NO! it's FRIDGE REPAIR MAN!" check the mantra:
"have you tried turning it off and then on again?" lol
When "off" the thing seems "dead" with no lights. Make sure it's not the freezer thermostat or else ask to replace the user! :rotfl:0 -
Some information for anyone else with a faulty Miele appliance.
I too have a Miele fridge/freezer that is out of warranty which is showing an F2 fault code. Miele's current charge is £111 (in London) for something called "Remedy" which is a callout plus 1 hour labour but parts are extra or £249 for "RemedyPlus" for callout, labour and parts. Both have 12 months warranty.
I thought £249 was too much so I looked for alternatives including trying to fix it myself. Then I saw that Domestic & General have a service called Repair & Protect where they or the manufacturer's service engineers fix the applicances at a lower cost than going direct.
Although Miele was not shown as on of the brand they fixed on their website - I can't add a proper link as a new(?) user so type in the following address www(dot)repairandprotect(dot)co(dot)uk
One phone call to them confirmed that they could arrange to get Miele to come and fix the problem. I was quoted £180 for the same service as Miele's own "RemedyPlus" and using Miele's service engineers to do the same work, thus saving £70 with one phone call.
:j
The only drawback is Domestic & General want you to sign up for a monthly interest free direct debit payment plan for 12 months which continues if you forget to cancel it.0
