Long term car hire

Some of you may have seen my other thread about negative equity on my car finance...I am still awaiting the liability figure from Welcome on that one. However if I do decide to VT it, I need a vehicle to start my new job. Having quite severe adverse credit, what options are available to me? Someone has suggested long term car hire, is this a good idea? I believe no credit check is required?

Very costly especially since the rate will include insurance (corporate hires like the contract my work has are much cheaper because they self insure)

Work use Europcar - you'll need to call them for their Month Plus rates.

Positive is that for your (considerable amount of ) money you'll get a new car every 2 months

It is unlikely they "self-insure." At half a million pounds a time, it gets a bit expensive. I think you mean they add the cars to their group policy. ;)
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

It's self insured as far as the hire company are concerned though, but fair play :)

    Example
Them: "Oh you can't drive one of our cars because you're under 21"
    Me: "We self insure.."
Them: "Oh, so you do, sorry"

As I am in a pedantic mood tonight (seems to be the order of the day on MSE ;)). To self-insure means that you indemnify yourself against a perilous risk. In other words, you do not have a policy from an insurance compnay, but have set aside an amount of money (in this case, the minimum, allowed by law, is five hundred thousand pounds) that will pay a claim, if one is made against you.

Your company (I am presuming) tell the hire company that they will organise the insurance themselves, by adding the vehicles to their group policy. :)

This has changed since I looked last - thanks :)

Surprisingly that isn't a whole lot more expensive than the arrangement I mentioned before where the company provides their own insurance (although our prices don't soar between classes - they're very similar until you get to the likes of Vectras etc)
