Massive increase in costs on Lasting Powers of Attorney if you earn under £12000 a year each from 1st October, details at http://www.LPAuk.com - please contact your MP!

Steve ... while I agree with your frustration about the fees hike, would I be correct in thinking the link you supplied is to one of your own many websites? If so, I think that that breaches MSE rules. The full report can be read at ...

Year 2000 mother taken to hospital with stroke. I collected a power/enduring power of attorney form from London EC4 legal stationer on my way to the hospital. Got it signed and witnessed - total cost less than £1.
Never got it registered and only used the ordinary power of attorney once in 4 years. Used to close an account that found "drunken spider" signature unacceptable. Managed to get "authorised signatory" on principle current account and turned it into "on-line".

Year 2008 mother's brother taken to hospital with "stroke". Massive fuss with the "self funding" police at the hospital.
Huge booklet type forms, all relatives needed to sign, appointed cousin as family representative.
Solicitor training himself at our expense, had interesting row with hospital doctor on who would sign that patient was still compos mentis.
Worked until 19:30 to get forms completed.
Went on 3 week foreign holiday.
Got back: "self funding" police had modified their stand: Not a stroke: patient dying of brain tumour - so OK for hospital to pay for expensive hospice.
6 weeks later patient dies. Tag " Mr Dog "
2 weeks after death LPA office writes to say error(s) made on the applications and solicitor sends in 4 figure bill.
Months later the two LPA's for a dead person, continue to demonstrate life after death - very similar to the self assessment tax system. still has a life of its own with a computer and team of clerks as hand maidens?

Farcical pantomime and total waste of time and money - thanks to a small minority of scum bag fraudsters that the police and legal system is unable to control.

PS Did my taxes pay for this result after the public consultation that got 50 responses:

Replacing Type 1, 2A a nd 2 su pervision fees with a f lat fee of £32 0 and introducing an administration fee of... £35 for those in Type 3 requiring the de minimis level of supervision

    Translation into English anyone?
