Who has had cranial osteopathy on a baby?

Options
Sorry if its in the wrong section.. feel free to move it :)

Anyone following my story will know why I am asking but basically I wanted to ask..

After the first session did they improve straight away? Get worse?
Did they need more sessions and how did it help? what were you reasons for taking them to have it done in the first place?

I took baby yesterday evening for his first session.. and tbh I have no idea what to expect, but he is due to go back on Monday for another session.

Thanks.

I took DD5 when she was 4-10 months.

She had severe reflux and was very unsettled and fretty.

After the first session her 'symptoms' improved for a few hours.. the second session for a day , the third a couple of days until she was improved from one visit to the next.

she became more settled and fed nicer, was able to settle without stressing herself or me. Her colic disappeared. She stopped waking during the night. Her digestion eased (less windy and less evil nappies)

If I had another unsettled stropster I wouldn't hesitat in taking them

I took my son when he was just a couple of months old. As you'll know if you've already been it looked like they barely touched him at all, if it hadn't been for him crying I'd have sworn they'd not done anything at all!

After they got the plates into alignment he fell straight to sleep and for the first time ever didn't wake when I took him out of the car. From then on he became just generally happier, they explained it as him feeling like he'd had a massive hangover since he'd been born (he'd cry whenever I laid him down.)

I took him back once more for them to check all was well (which it was) and they didn't need to see him again. I really, really wished I'd heard about it sooner tbh.

  • Thanks for your replies. I just wondered as wasnt sure what to expect. He woke even more often last night after having it done and since going his head feels really hot but his temp is fine.
But even though he woke alot more I was able to settle him within seconds/minutes rather than struggling all night. Also I only offered 2 feeds in the night and he left 2-3oz of both which he doesnt normally do. I guess I am just hoping he will keep improving?

  • Well done you, I know it was a real struggle to find the means.

I think someone said on your initial thread that they might get a little worse before they settle. Although it sounds like last night was better than normal.

Hope you have the funds to keep going a few more times and hopefully you will get the much needed sleep for everyone.

I am overdue a cranial for myself. I do it as a PND recovery exercise, and with the school holidays, I need it more than ever, roll on next week!

    take care

My ds was a very unhappy baby. He didn't have cranial osteopathy until he was 2 1/2 although I did try a chiropractor which didn't seem to have any effect. Before cranial osteopathy he used to grind his teeth every night but after the second visit of three he never did it again. I also noticed that he became more relaxed and less irritable. He is 13 now and no trouble at all.
    I hope it helps.
  • DS was a good bit better the day after his first treatment. Up to then it'd taken 2 hours for a feed, the day after his first treatment he fed in 20 mins. We did several sessions when he was a baby. I took him again a few months ago as he was getting himself so upset over little things, after one treatment he again was much better.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.
  • I am struggling to take him back monday... using food money. But I am really hoping it will work and I can live off beans and toast for a month if it means my baby boy is happy :) aslong as the kids eat healthy I can manage. Will def update you all on his progress.

  • Hi SIngle Mum of 2

I took my baby at 10 weeks as she had colic from hell. I was cynical about it but desperate. It improved after the 1st session and 3 in total did the trick.

    Best of luck x

    Hi

I dont know where you live but if its near London (SW18), I have taken my DS to the FPO a few times - they are a wonderful childrens osteopathic hospital/clinic and as its a charity, its free (or a small donation can be given) - http://www.fpo.org.uk/.

Which reminds me - DS is begging me to take him back....must call them tomorrow lol!

Good luck Singlemumof2! I went to see a therapist with my baby 10 years ago for this, but she decided to try homeopathy 1st which worked great and my fretful (read greetin faced) baby settled sooo much easier! She was born with her face presenting 1st as opposed to the soft bones at the back of the head so the birth was quite traumatic for her.

She still does things the awkward way come to think of it!
