You could also try M&S. They have 25% off when you buy 6 or more bottles of wine, and you can use it in conjunction with any other wine offers it has on.

There are a couple of threads in grabbit saying that the 10% code also works in conjunction with this offer, but takes the 10% off the original price, so a nice extra glitch.
There's a free delivery code too.

We had a tasting session of wines from asda and netto that were on 3 for £10 (tesco was 3 for £12) and found a red, white and rose we liked and then bought those. For sparkling, we tried Tesco Cava which was £4.50 a bottle and we liked that and then waited until it was on offer with buy 6 and get 25% off.

I much prefer asda wines 3 for £10 compared to Tesco wines but thats personal preference.
The venue that we are getting married at are charging £8 corkage or £14 a bottle so for example if we bought 60 bottles this would cost £840 but if we got 60 bottles at 3 for £10 and paid corkage it would cost £680 saving us £160. however we havent decided whether to get wine from the venue or buy our own.

I'm searching for wine in giant bottles as the idea of corkage makes me cross even though my dad says he'll pay for the wine and the corkage.

So far I've paid £110.95 on 30 bottles of wine (6 Echo Falls Merlot, 12 Echo Falls Chardoney, 12 Echo Falls White Zinfandel) from either Asda or Tescos (normal supermarket shops - not their wine clubs). It works out at on average £3.70 per bottle. This is a saving of £83.75 off their RRP. :T

How much wine are people providing for their guests during the main meal?
I don't want to run out but also don't really drink wine so don't want to end up with lots of wine left over. I know some places buy on a return basis, but the shop I'm using doesn't! Although I guess I could always buy my 'spare' from somewhere else and return if not drunk!

I'm very pleased that my venue doesn't charge a corkage fee :D
  • White wines are made from white grapes and red wines are from the red or black grapes.

Just being pedantic I know, but white wine is not necessarily made from white grapes - it can just as easily be from red grapes. When making red wine the skins are left in once the grapes are crushed to colour the wine, in white wine making, you remove the skins immediately the grapes are crushed, so they do not colour or flavour the juice.

Off topic and useless information I know, but we might as well be well informed!
  • Sorry I'm not offering advice but have a quick question of my own... roughly how many bottles of wine would you estimate for approximately 100 guests? Also (and this may be relevant!) we are not having a formal sit-down meal but an informal help yourself BBQ - as I'm not a wine drinker myself, I'm not sure if guests would prefer a beer with their burger rather than a classy wine?! :p
  • Quick question- does anyone know how many glasses I would get out off a bottle for the toast?
