Where to buy a good bed??

Hello
Hope I'm posting in the right place & hope someone can help
We want to get ourselves a reasonable quality king size bed - planning on getting a divan style one. Have up to about £800 to spend, but would like to spend around £600.
Have had a quick look in Dreams a while ago, but not sure whether we'd get better value for money elsewhere. Tesco Direct have a couple at half price at the moment that appear reasonable, but am a bit nervous about buying one without trying it out first.
Really appreciate any help you can give

Good question and one I have been asking myself as ready for a replacement.
Very subjective but I consider that beds are probably the most used piece of furniture you ever buy and that often they are underbudgeted for. I would consider spending around £1k for a double, the bulk of that cost allocated to the matress. For that i would expect very good quality and a life expectancy of 10 years.
Most of the major brands are not going to offer this.
I was looking at this company (Hypnos). Anyone have any knowledge of their products through using/purchasing them.

Don't buy from Dreams. Almost bought a mattress from there myself until I realised that they rebrand things so that they have unique names and you can't compare their prices with other stores. We got an equivalent mattress online - same brand and everything - for half the price and with free delivery (even though the Dreams one was supposedly on sale). Dreams charge something like £30 which I think is unfair for an item which most people will need to have delivered.
I used http://www.bedsdirect247.co.uk/ and found their service to be very good0 -
I went to a local independent bed shop. If you're in the North East - Sunderland Bedding Centre.
They were lovely in there. The man introduced himself and then let us just wander around trying everything out without any pressure to buy. He said to make sure we had a good lay down on the beds to make sure they were comfortable and right for us.
You'll spend many hours in bed sleeping so you need something that is going to be comfortable for you, which put me off buying online. Here I go again on my own....0 -

The base is basically a box to support a mattress- so don't spend big bucks there.
The majority of your budget should go on the mattress. Don't be afraid to buy each in different places.
The Ikea Sultan mattresses are good value but obv are in European sizes.0 -
try tranquilitybeds.co.uk we just bought a divan bed from them very comfortable but the most important bit is the mattress0
